Sidewise Award Nomination!

As it is pretty well known by now that CL Anderson and Sarah Zettel are one and the same, I figure I can announce this here.

I’ve been nominated for the Sidewise Award for Alternate History for my story “The Persistence of Souls,” which appears in the Book View Press Anthology, THE SHADOW CONSPIRACY: Tales of the Steam Age Vol. I

Here’s the official announcement from BVC:

Book View Cafe author Sarah Zettel has been nominated for this year’s Sidewise Award for Alternate History for her story “The Persistence of Souls,” published in the exclusive Book View Press collection THE SHADOW CONSPIRACY: Tales of the Steam Age Vol. I .

THE SHADOW CONSPIRACY is a unique, original anthology, created and published exlcusively by the author-members of Book View Cafe.

A collection of stories set on alternative earth, a place powered by steam and magic, THE SHADOW CONSPIRACY takes place in a world of dreamers, experimenters and engineers, soulless humans and ensouled machines was born of most unlikely parents: four poets who gathered one cold summer on the shores of Lake Geneva in 1816.  All-new and never-before-seen, these stories explore the unfolding consequences of that gathering — and how it changed everything we thought we knew about science and ourselves.

Me at Romantic Times – Post 3

Woke up fairly early on Friday, mostly because the internal clock won’t let me sleep late.  Had convivial breakfast with Beth Vaughn.  Hit the How to Write a Comic Book panel.  They had an artist drawing scenes on a white board as the editor and author talked through the various aspects of scripting and layout.  V. informative.

Met Catherine Asaro for lunch and had a good talk.  By then it was time to get ready for the Big Event —

The EBook Expo.

SPEAKING of being a woman of queenly proportions…

One of my alter egos weighs in (so to speak), on the Book View Cafe blog about how Fox and ABC have decided positive views of rubenesque women are inappropriate for the eight o’clock hour.

Book View Cafe Releases International Kittens of Mystery!

In an uncertain world there is one organization that stands head and small furry shoulders above the rest. Whenever the planet is in danger – be it from giant balls of wool or bands of renegade squirrels – only one group is guaranteed to answer the call: The International Kittens of Mystery!

Chris Dolley’s INTERNATIONAL KITTENS OF MYSTERY is a journal of their stories. For the first time, cameras have been allowed into one of their top secret training camps – Training Camp Alpha. A camp where, under the supervision of pet humans, recruits are shown not only how to save the world but also how to manage their secret identities – how to blend in and infiltrate the human society that they alone can protect.

If you like a laugh and looking at large colour pictures of cute kittens saving the planet, this is the book for you. It’s the book the iPad was designed for – ask Steve Jobs’s cat.

This DRM-free book costs $2.99 and can be downloaded from Book View Café.

All proceeds from the book go towards the upkeep of the International Kittens of Mystery orbiting space platform. After all, if an asteroid-sized ball of wool really did threaten the Earth, who’re you gonna call? Bruce Willis and his team of miners or the real experts in unravelling balls of wool?

BVC Welcomes Katherine Kerr!

fireworksBook View Cafe welcomes its newest member: Katherine Kerr.

On Friday, September 25, historical fantasy author, Katherine Kerr became the latest author-member of the Book View Cafe.

Kerr spent her childhood in a Great Lakes industrial city and her adolescence in Southern California, from whence she fled to the Bay Area just in time to join a number of the Revolutions then in progress.  After fleeing those in turn, she became a professional story-teller and an amateur skeptic,
who regards all True Believers with a jaundiced eye.  An inveterate loafer and rock and roll fan, she begrudgingly spares some time to write novels.

Kerr will be launching at Book View Café with her story, “The Bargain,” set in the fantasy world, Annwn, of her Deverry series.
